The Tremiti archipelago

The Tremiti Islands are located only 10 miles off the coast. The archipelago is made up of three main islands, San Domino, San Nicola and Capraia, and the small and uninhabited island of Cretaccio as well as a renowned rock named La Vecchina (the old woman).

In 1989, the archipelago, inhabited since the Neolithic period, was declared marine natural reserve and was included in the National Park of Gargano due to its extraordinary marine flora and fauna. Further, the Tremiti Islands see the presence of several migratory birds among which Eleonora’s Falcons and peregrine falcons, the Cory’s shearwaters and Manx shearwaters.
